This is the text of the teafortwo entry. The craftgrrl entry is just the same, without the first part about the jewelry, and with a teaser image to get people to open the lj-cut.

Sooo, I'm a huge liberal. But when I saw these beauties on the news as political Tea Party wear, I wanted them really badly.

Anyone else? (Btw, clearer picture if you click on it, go to the article, and click on it again.)

Also, a couple of months ago I posted my tea mural. Well, it's gotten bigger. Four shots of its life so far.

I hate my friends

Also, are you still in contact with any game companies? I'm interested in anything related to gaming, even as an intern.
I should be meeting with my professor that I'm hoping to use next week.

Oooh. You should totally ask her if there's a place with two openings
What? A guy can dream, can't he?

I feel like guys frequently dream about places with two openings or more.

What can I say? Some guys like a variety of positions. I would love a position at any company.

This is Brian. He'll be living with me while Kay is in New Zealand.

May we all survive this experience.

I'm still learning to embroider, but I've made one thing I love, so far. This is on a plain white drying towel, like my grandma used to do.

An open letter to all of lj.

An open letter to all of lj.

When writing in a community, do not write the bulk of your message in anything other than the default text. Do not change the color. Do not change the size. Do not change the font or make it italic.

Please, feel free to making things smaller, italic, bold, or a color for emphasis only. As in, a few words out of an entire post.

And in your own journal, do whatever the hell you please. I'm not going to friend you, so I don't care.

But...yeah...pretentious and annoying, much?

Breast Cancer shananigans

Everything below the line is by happiestsadist, but it's basically a much better written of my frustration at the whole bra color trend lately. You know what? Mine is white/yellow/purple plaid, and I don't mind admitting it, especially as part of a game, but it infuriates me that anyone thinks it means a damn thing.

Yes, I'm on Facebook. I mostly just use it as a way of reminding myself when something I'm expected to attend is going on. I don't spend time there, play anything or actually participate.

That said, there's this meme going around there that's gotten my attention, and is pissing me right the hell off. It is:

"Some fun is going on…. just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. And send this on to ONLY girls no men …. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before the men will wonder why all the girls have a color in their status… Haha."

Wow, sounds like amazing activism to me! The best kind of awareness raising is the sort that refuses to explain itself to half the population. And it's not like this is actually doing anything. It doesn't raise money for research programs to actually find a cure, and doesn't help people in treatment or survivors. It's just talking about bras. And seeing as breast cancer is the most heavily merchandised cancer, it's not like anyone here doesn't know it exists. I've seen pink breast cancer awareness toilet paper in the store, for fuck's sake. All you have to do is colour any normal object pink and send a nickel to one of the large breast cancer foundations that spend most of their money on advertising, and you too can be a responsible, "pro-woman" corporation. (See more on this here. I can't help but notice a lack of a nice brown colorectal cancer awareness ribbon slapped on everything. Hell, it would make sense to have specially marketed toilet paper for that.

But my biggest issue with this bullshit isn't the slacktivism popping up like little carcinomas after the sentinel nodes have been affected, it isn't with the profiteering disguised as actual good work, it's the fact that it's all about the sexy, sexy titties. Which is the main *ahem* thrust of this Facebook meme.

Because it's not about the fact that breast cancer is an awful, painful disease that kills lost and lots of people (hey, men can get it too). All these asshole campaigns that do anything besides paint shit pink is mourn for the loss of tits for men to grope.

The women with cancer are pretty much excluded from this "activism", except as much as they are vehicles for transporting breasts. There's no concern for women who currently have breast cancer, or for those who've survived it but have chosen not to have implants after a mastectomy. It's all focused on young, sexy women keeping their boobs ready to entertain men. Dehumanizing, heteronormative and sexist! AWESOME. Save the boobs. Or hey, let the menfolk who really appreciate breasts tell you more.

There's a few good reasons to support (legitimate) breast cancer charities and research foundations. It's a pretty common cancer, and odds are good that you or someone you know is going to have it at some point. Cancer is a shitty thing for anyone to have. And if you want a really good reason, just Google "breast cancer en cuirasse".

Best summary of homeopathy I've ever seen

"Hey, 'sup, water molecule?"
"Nothin, other water molecule, just chillin'."
"Remember that other molecule that was here a second ago?"
"Other other water moleucle?"
"No, it was some weird not-water molecule."
"No idea what you're talking about, dude."

Someone here in craftgrrl posted a link to a pdf pattern for home-made Snuggies/Slankets/whatever called The Snuglet. After buying some fleece on Black Friday, I finally made one tonight. (With the help of my wonderful mother. I like sewing, but this does not mean I am good at it, and I had never attached sleeves before.)

Update on Seattle

I looked right at noon, soooo...
$577 from scearley
$100 from dakotaluna
$99 from mcfnord

Not to mention probably 20-50 comments saying "donated and commented" and a number asking where to send sleeping bags/sweaters/coats/giftcards they didn't plan on using.

Thank you to everyone who donated, especially the big three, and everyone who commented to help scearley get a nice big number, and especially iamkatia who posted originally and will be the one distributing the donations and throwing a party.

Comment, and bankrupt scearley

iamkatie asks seattle for donations to help give homeless youth an actual Christmas. This year, scearley comment and said that s/he would donate $1 for every comment on the entry before noon tomorrow. Another user is matching, up to $100. There's 80 some right now.
